On a Day Like This
Hamish Pearch On a Day Like This will present a number of sculptures. All works were made in 2018. Pearch thinks with objects. It’s through objects, by eschewing language, that we can learn most about ourselves. The sculptures relate to parts inside a body, the site of a factory; with all they’re pipes and mechanics, as well as other architectural sites of storage, production and distribution. The exhibition demonstrates that things, in their complexities, can only be grasped and comprehended in fragments. Flying at 6000 miles an hour around the sun, balancing on tectonic plates that are floating on lava. This exhibition proposes thoughts around notions of time, beginnings and endings, collapse and renewal. The melting of things, the putting together of things. We’re all going in the same direction eventually. Questions will be raised over structural failure, the evolution of humanity and its possible collapse.
